Rewards Network UX Process

Increasing efficiency across teams, projects and partners

Role: Senior UX Designer | Agency: Rewards Network

Rewards Network is the largest promotional program for the restaurant industry, managing over 16 dining programs for airline, hotel and retail industries.

We streamlined the design and production process for the connected programs, saving us over 22% in production time.

We wanted to decrease churn and dev time.
So we defined a high level process and toolset across teams; simple enough to streamline communication & production across teams, but flexible enough to deal with multiple project types.

I worked in conjunction with the product manager to streamline the process across both big and small projects.

A Streamlined Process

Designing big and small—managing larger projects with ongoing agile development.

We wanted to better balance AGILE development with larger project work. So we streamlined our product development process, and identified areas where UX design played a key role.

Production Flow

We established a communication and evaluation process across teams.

Communication Flow

We found more efficiencies across teams by defining a toolset for UX projects, organizing project management, and continually moving detailed design into the AGILE work stream.

Designing Big

Data-driven decisions for future-state projects.

User needs across the experience were defined from UX research & best practices, along with quantitative and qualitative data.

HotJar

The user needs, along with business needs and project scope, were used to evaluate a backlog of projects for the product roadmap.

Product Roadmap

The user needs were also used to inform future-state projects, where we strategized and explored approaches to content, design, and functionality before moving to the agile work stream.

I was involved in all strategy and research, created all lo-fidelity and hi-fidelity wireframes, and managed communication between Marketing, UX and Development Teams.

Future State Project Example

I also created prototypes and mockups to run qualitative tests that informed our decisions. I was involved in every step from conception through evaluation and recommendations.

UX design & support for AGILE stories & projects

UX worked as part of the AGILE product team continually designing, developing and deploying pebble updates across the experience.

Data, UX research and future-state projects helped identify incremental improvements that identified business and user goals. Daily standup and constant communication across slack, jira and confluence enabled us to maintain a consistent stream of updates.

I was involved in a daily basis consulting on all epics and stories that required UX input. created all lo-fidelity and hi-fidelity wireframes, and managed communication between Marketing, UX and Development Teams.

UX was embedded in the team for both consultation and design. Over time, as we developed as a team, UX design was used more for consultation and support vs detail design on pebble updates. This enabled UX to focus on research, strategy and future state updates while still being an active part of the AGILE process.
